Arlington Million Day Results

G1 Secretariat Stakes
The day got started off well with our top win pick #9 Beach Patrol holding off a game Long Island Sound for the victory in the G1 Secretariat race on the firm turf going at Arlington Park.
Though chalky, that win by #9 Beach Patrol kicked off winning Exacta, Trifecta and Superfecta suggested wagers. The Super Screener selected #9 Beach Patrol as the only “A” horse in the race… a worthy single in horizontal wagers. Here’s what we had to say about Beach Patrol:
“Chad Brown comes to Arlington loaded for bear and this one is no exception. Terrible trip against so much better last out at the 1 1/4 distance. Stalks the modest pace and then pounces late with a clean trip today. Top pick.”
#8 Long Island Sound came out of the same race that #9 Beach Patrol did, that being the G1 Belmont Derby, which supports looking at that race as a key race now (as the winner, #13 Deauville, came back to finish 3 rd in the Arlington Million against older horses). Move horses up coming out of that race in their next starts.
G1 Beverly D
Of our two “A” win horses, #13 Sea Calisi proved to be much the best coming from 2 nd to last with an eye-catching stretch move to snag the victory.
“Sea Calisi is the horse to beat. Had to overcome extremely slow pace set ups in her US starts.Finished third behind the incredible Treve last Fall. Built for this distance and Chad Brown holds a big hand here. Sharp win pick.”
The Super Screener took a strong stand against the Aidan O’brien charges, #1 Ballydoyle and #6 Coolmore. Both of those horses finished in the back of the field as the second and third choices in the wagering.
“Still don’t know what happened to Ballydoyle in that last place finish in the Belmont Oaks. Certainly is better than what we witnessed there. Might be better suited to the sprint and mile distances. Does need a strong pace, however”.
“Coolmore was supposed to be the pace help for stablemate Ballydoyle last out. Might prefer less ground. Vulnerable”.
The mare the Super Screener really liked at odds of nearly 40-1, #14 Party Girl, rallied from last to finish mid-pack but didn’t show that killer closing kick that we had seen in her prior races over seas. She, along with 5 th place finisher #12 Faufiler, were keys to the suggested wagers.
#2 Al’s Gal was one of our top rated horses going off at odds of 20-1. Hopefully, some of you used her under #13 Sea Calisi in your Exactas.
“Al’s Gal is coming into her own at 5. Best at this type of distance. Hasn't missed the Superfecta in past nine starts against easier. Secures an ideal stalking position behind the slower pace. Tough competitor…in the $ shot.”
G1 Arlington Million
It was a terrific edition of the Arlington Million despite the fact that our top choice in the race #8 Decorated Knight was scratched after sustaining injuries while getting loose in the barn the night before. That moved up #9 Mondialiste as one of just two “A” win horses in the race and this Euro shipper did not disappoint, finishing gamely for the victory at generous odds of 9-2.
#6 Kasaqui, a top long shot pick by the Super Screener, was bet down some and nearly took down the hold darn thing but settled for a second place finish at 12-1. Here’s what we said about this horse…
“TOP LONG SHOT A Super Screener long shot favorite. Lightly raced 6 yr old moving forward in every race. Projects to do so again here. Very usable bomber…AP prep horses can hit the board at big odds!”
The Super Screener absolutely loved #1 Danish Dynaformer and even more so when he went off at 26-1. Admittedly, there was some energetic urging coming from our seats at Arlington as he was gaining momentum down the stretch only to get beaten out of 4 th place by a neck. Ugh!…that was tough to endure. However, #11 World Approval, #12 Tryster and #10 Wake Forest all disappointed not running anything close to their projected outcomes and they were key to cashing.
Coming up next weekend, Del Mar takes center stage with their marquee event, The Pacific Classic and it promises to be one heck of a race with California Chrome and Beholder facing off for the first time to determine who reigns king or queen in the California older horses division.
